My A2 montage IT poster takes inspiration from the ideals behind photo-montaging. When we took our class models and montaged it, we were taking something different and putting it into a scene to make it look as if it has always been apart of the landscape. My poster takes this concept the odd shaped shapes in the squares reflect how we are seamlessly fitting in something that is different and making it the focal point.

Montage IT! - Montages
For our take home task we were required to create two contrasting montages with our models in it. I decided to so a night time montage and a dusk time montage. We also had to do a initial montage after we built our model.
The background of the Dusk montage was a different image which through layers and the erase tool i integrated it into the montage. My model sits on the right and it takes over the whole right side, i used the burn tool to make sure that the model appearance fit the dusk theme.

For my night time montage, i wanted my montage to be atmospheric and full of light and excitement I played around with the exposure and brightness in my montage a lot and put in people to make it more atmospheric. My model acts as a monument/ stairs in the image and i had to de-saturate the color and increase the exposure to get a brighter finish to fit in with the night life theme.

Montage IT! - Flip Book
One of the concepts behind our flip book creation was to show the movement through our structure, i took this concept heavily into consideration and created a flip book which shows a man moving through my spiral stair like structure which was my interpretation of the wall by Andy Goldsworthy. For me it was more important to show how a person could move through my structure rather than focusing n the structure it self, The back ground image of my structure is the sky with fluffy clouds, I took inspiration from Led Zeppelins "Stairway to heaven" hence the sky background (my model looks like a stair case).
I used Photoshop animation and then copied each slide into in design so printing would become easier. In the end my flip book conveys a man climbing up my model's stairs
Montage IT! - Concept Model
Our First task for workshop 3 was to create a model based on a piece of artwork. My chosen piece of artwork was The wall at storm king by Andy Goldsworthy. The wall twists and turns in and out of trees utilizing their placement to give the wall its interesting shape putting itself second to the natural landscape of the grounds. It bows to nature once more when it comes to a pond and does not attempt to master it.

I considered these notions whist designing my concept model, i took into play the twisting nature of the wall and created a model which mimicked this nature.
Poster: Draw-IT! workshop 2
My poster focuses on the multifaceted nature of drawing and rendering. The section plans of Magney house protrude from the draw it text in a circular shape. This broadcasts how drawings can be represented in many ways, the text is multi-colored to represent how renderings are not linear and have many different aspects which come together as a whole

Draw IT! Week 3- Take Home Task
Our final Take home task required us to render our plans in one specific style and we had do complete an axonometric view of our house. I used watercolor to render my plans but the outcome wasn't as successful. In hindsight i should have rendered my plans in my pencil method that I was previously successful with.
Draw IT! Week 3- Class Task
For our in class task we were required to draw and axonometic view of our kitchen/ living area. Axonometric drawings are relatively easy to grasp after you understand that you have to rotate your initial plan 30 or 45 degrees to the horizontal. After the plan is rotated you draw vertical lines from each point on the plan. I found this in class task easier and i found it more refreshing as it was the first time where i knew what to do, which was great.

Our Second in class task was to draw a two point perspective drawing. I selected to draw the cafe building and the chemical sciences building. Sean went over how to go obout drwaing a two point persepctive intially he explained how it was similar to a one point perspective but this time it involved using two vanishing points .

I initially had problems with grasping the idea of drawing a two point perspective drawing, i didn't follow the steps Sean taught, which was one of the main reasons i was getting my drawing wrong. I ended up re doing my perspective drawing after looking for how to draw to point perspective tutorial online. After understanding what to do and how to do it the two point perspective drawing became easier. I rendered the drawing with just simple shading and used different pen thicknesses to give extra depth and dimension to my drawing.

For our first Draw IT studio we learnt how to draw a one point perspective drawing. Sean and Matt explained the basic notions required to draw a one point perspective, this involves the concept of a vanishing point which is the place where receding lines converge.
Poster: Model-IT! workshop 1
My Model IT! poster broadcasts through the progressive vertical panels how model making is a progressive exercise that little by little you progress to build the final product. The poster also aims to represent my fisher house model in 3D, to show how in model making you take a 2D plan or drawing and transform it into a tangible three dimensional structure. The text at the bottom states explicitly what i believe model making is which is to "create reality piece by piece" which refers to how in model making you are creating a realistic miniature version of a building one balsa piece at a time.
Model IT! Week 3-Major Take Home Task
Our final major project model was to construct a highly detailed model of Fisher House in 1:50 showing all rooms. This project required us to bring together all the skills we had learnt in the past few weeks and utilize them.One of the most difficult aspect of this project was reading the plans and assessing how to construct each side and bring all the sides together. Thinking about how i was going to make that model took a lot of time, but once it figured out cutting became relatively easier.
I made the house so each level cold be taken apart, this made it easier to not only see the interiors but to cut and put things together. One of the major design bumps I hit was how to represent the exterior timber cladding on the house.To navigate around this bump i made sure when i was cutting that the grain was perpendicular to the cladding direction (grain ran horizontally). By doing this i could score the cladding on to make i look like my model had a exterior timber finish.

For our Week 3 in Class Task we were required to build a 1:50 scale model of the famous window seat in the Fisher house.
This famous corner features a fireplace, a seat integrated into the window and intricate wood detailing broadcasting the simplicity as well as the complexity of the house.
The curvature of the fireplace was also a design element of the section that i was stumped on. Although balsa did have some flexibility horizontally along the grain it was not sufficient enough for the fireplace. Sean then told us to wet the balsa and then flex it, By wetting the balsa I was able to create the curvature shape of the fireplace

The house is characterized by its dual cubic spaces, stone foundation and detailed cladding. the house focuses on simple geometry allowing the cubes to provide a separation of public and private spaces.
For this model i believed using balsa was the best material In order to ensure my landscape contours of Fisher House were to scale i re-sized the plan given using photo-shop and printed it out. I would then place the template on balsa and score each contour out.

The most difficult aspect of this assignment was taking into consideration that their had to be a space left in the middle to fit in the house. This took a lot of thinking as i had to consider in which contours the house was situated above.

Model IT! Week 1-Take Home Task

Our first take home task was to build a 1:200 Scale model of Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion.

I also used plastic sheets to mimic the glass, I cut the sheets to shape and cut incisions into the floor, i was able to slot them in and apply a small amount of glue to make sure it stayed in place.
Through this assignment i became more confident in my model making skills and initial cutting and gluing skills initially which were difficult became simpler to do-like they say practice makes perfect.
The challenging aspect of this assignment was to use 2D linear plans and transform it into a 3D model. Doing this required a lot of pragmatic thinking as you had to decide which section to build first and where each piece had to go. Overall there was a definite improvement in my model making compared to the in class task.
Model IT! Week 1-Class Task
Our first ever ARCH 1142 studio introduced us to model making and how models are three dimensional representations of structures, built to communicate design ideas and concepts. Sean and Matthias our tutors took us through basic model making skills such as cutting, gluing and material selection. We were required to build three houses with base dimensions 80mm by 80mm and with the three houses we then were required to fuse them together to produce a single model.
This class task was a complete shock to me, I had never built a model or worked with balsa wood to build anything so throughout the class i was lost. As i worked my way through the houses I slowly did grasp ideas of how to build models and simple techniques such as how to cut, how much glue to use/the best type of glue to use and how to use balsa wood effectively. Although my final model was a fail in epic proportions the in class task in hindsight was a good learning experience, but i did feel defeated after the class.
